Great Grandma Phypers
Every May 3rd, for as long as I can remember, I can always count on a phone call from my great grandma Phypers. I’ll hear the phone ring, and not recognizing the number, will answer to find a friendly voice ask, “Is Cody there?”. “Yes,” I’ll answer, “this is Cody.” What happens next is not something that is uncommon at all but somehow it always warms my heart like few things can. My great grandma will sing me a very beautiful rendition of happy birthday that always bring me close enough to feel her joy and love.
Once a year I am reminded, more than any other day, how fortunate I am to have the family I do. I have been very fortunate to know and still have two of my great grandmothers (gg), gg Hannan and gg Phypers. I am also so fortunate to have a family that would stop at nothing to help, not only myself, but anyone in need. I look at all of my grandparents and I am so thankful that I have such amazing people in my life. It is so cool to know that no matter where I am at in my life or what condition my spiritual life is in, I can always count on my grandparents for encouragement. I am blessed more than I could ever hope to express with these trivial words.
I remember people saying that you are stuck with the family you have whether you like it or not, and with that in mind, I feel pretty fortunate to be part of the families that I am. Here’s to the Petersons, Taylors, Hannans, Phypers and more recently the Fleming and Ness families for all your love and support.
